The world of work is changing more rapidly than it has done since the Industrial Revolution. Since the pandemic struck many employers have had to make some difficult decisions, putting staff on reduced hours, furloughing and in many cases making large scale redundancies.
Prior to lockdown the labour market was historically tight with a lack of experienced and skilled labour available.
Where does this leave the labour market now? How will the local economy survive and thrive without the jobs for those employees who now find them unemployed? Are the jobs they need and are trained for out there?
Our guest panellists this afternoon will attempt to unravel the complexities of the current labour market and shed some light on the recovery strategies for the region.
Sarah Knight, Managing Director Sarah West Recruitment
Sarah began working in recruitment more than twenty years ago, after relocating from the South East to Exeter. She is not only a recruiter but also a well respected consultant for employers who need to know and understand how to engage and develop the best talent for their company.
Sarah will be bringing us the latest insight on the employment market, in the South West, from a private sector perspective. She will also share her thoughts on the priorities for organisations, when it comes to protecting and continuing to attract talented people, now and in the future, including some of the opportunities the recent lightening pace of change can bring.
Jacob Coburn, Senior Economic Development Officer - Skills and Education at Devon County Council and the HotSW LEP
Jacob is going to provide an overview of Devon CC and the LEP’s evaluation of the scale of predicted redundancies, where they are, the sectors impacted and most at risk, and the strategies that are being put in place to manage the fall-out. He will also be updating us on the Government's Kickstart scheme for 16-24 year-olds.
Join us to experience our virtual panel session where we will be providing our business community with a platform where you can find expert advice in different subjects that are impacting on us all at this time and the opportunity to ask questions of our panel about your own specific situations.
