At a seminar session during Devon Business Show on Wednesday 12 June at Plymouth Pavilions, Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce Chief Executive Stuart Elford unveiled a ground-breaking new membership platform designed to significantly increase the benefits members receive and encourage membership growth for the 200-year-old organisation.
Part of the Chamber’s development and growth strategy, the new membership platform is the culmination of months of market research, focus group and development work by the Chamber team. This work reviewed previous membership benefits and recognised that in today’s challenging business environment and in common with many other membership organisations, the Chamber needed to modernise its approach, services and support.
The new membership model moves away from a ‘one size fits all approach’ with fees based on the number of employees and instead gives businesses the opportunity to choose from five membership categories, identifying the one which best serves their particular business needs with its range of features, benefits and services.
In a major improvement to the Chamber’s support for businesses, each of the five membership categories will give access for the first time to the award-winning Quest Four Services, which are designed to give peace of mind and protection to businesses across four key areas: HR, Health & Safety, legal and tax advice. New members of the Chamber (from June 2019) will have unlimited access to expert advice and support in these areas via one phone number and a dedicated website providing 750 free downloadable template documents, backed up with Legal Expenses Insurance for up to £1m cover and £100,000 per claim, no excess.
As part of the new membership improvements, the Chamber has abolished joining fees and is also offering a 15% discount on annual membership fees across all categories for start-up businesses (under 18 months old), schools and registered charities.
The entry-level category (Essential) costs just £250 & VAT per year, maintaining the commitment to provide affordable membership. Existing Chamber members who wish to upgrade to a new membership category straight away and enjoy the new benefits before their annual renewal date will be able to do so by contacting the Chamber’s Membership team.
Stuart Elford, Chief Executive Devon & Plymouth Chamber launched the new membership categories saying: “It has been some time since the Chamber had a ‘root and branch’ review of the benefits of being a member. Alongside our extensive research, we have discussed with members and non-members the issues facing businesses today and how they feel the Chamber’s future development can support them to connect, grow and succeed.
“I am very positive about the support we can give to businesses and feel the changes we are putting in place now are a great start to building mutually beneficial relationships. The new offer, combined with our exceptional events programme and lobbying at local, regional and national level, cements our position as the premier business organisation in the South West.”
