First Employees Awarded Nationally Recognised International Trade Qualification as Devon And Plymouth Chamber Launches New Training Courses for 2019.
The International Trade team, at Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce has just announced its training programme for 2019, following on from its highly successful 2018 programme which saw two people become the first recipients of Foundation awards in International Trade.
The British Chamber of Commerce training programme covers all aspects of exporting and importing goods, including an introduction to exporting course for those businesses wanting to develop their export knowledge. Two specific courses are dedicated to gaining expertise on topics such as export documentation and customs procedures. These courses will take into account any changes as they happen, specifically in respect of Brexit and are run by a local training provider, International Trade Matters.
Jasmine Pearse from Composite Integration and Hannah Briant from Paper Converting Machine Company have recently become the first people in Devon & Cornwall to gain their Foundation Award in International Trade through the Chamber, which is equivalent to an NVQ 2.
Jasmine Pearse recently completed her award through the Chamber after joining the team at Composite Integration in 2017 as a receptionist and general administrator. Completing the Foundation Award at the Chamber was pivotal to her progressing in her role. She is the first point of contact with the company and deals with the daily sales order entry and dispatch processes.
Composite Integration Ltd provides market-leading and innovative solutions to the composites industry, specialising in Resin Transfer Moulding and Resin Infusion processes, operating worldwide.
Jasmine said: “Completing these courses was essential not just for me but also for the company. As a major exporter, it’s essential that we get the documents required for International Trade right and these courses have enabled me to do this.”
Jasmine applied for the first two courses, Introduction to Exporting and Export Procedures and was so thrilled with the courses at the Chamber she wanted to do more.
She continued: “I learnt a lot on these first two courses and they were delivered very professionally. So, when my employer agreed to fund more training I quickly signed up to four more courses, which enabled me to gain this qualification. We’ve recently had a big shipment going to a country with a lot of customs procedures, so it’s massively helped with that.”
Hannah Briant has also just recently completed her Foundation Award. She completed six of the International Trade training courses that were held by the Chamber. Hannah’s role is currently in freight and shipping and she said: “On joining Paper Converting I initially came in as an administrative role, but my job quickly expanded into freight and shipping. I then realised that it was essential for me to gain the knowledge and make sure that we are doing everything efficiently and signed up to these courses. I have now become the ‘go to’ person in this area of the business and have got stuck in and just loved it.”
“I applied to the Devon & Plymouth Chamber of Commerce as I had heard how good the courses were and a big factor in taking on the training courses with them was the fact that I would gain a qualification by going through them.”
Hannah has decided that she is now going to continue learning from home and is interested in enrolling on the Institute of Exporting courses and completing higher level qualifications with them. She is very passionate about what she does and is keen to develop her skills even further.
She continued: “This has helped me massively in my job role. This has enabled me to keep up-to-date with current affairs and with Brexit happening has prepared me going forward. This isn’t just useful to me but also is an advantage to the business that I am up to speed with the international trade documents. The courses were really in depth and they were delivered exceptionally. I’m really looking forward to developing my career further.”
